September already ?
The best thing about Substack is that if you love writing, you can just plop yourself down in any café, order something warm (or iced, let’s be honest), and start typing away. That’s the beauty of reading and writing: it’s accessible, portable, and a little bit magical.
After a whirlwind summer of traveling, working, and socializing, I finally carved out a quiet moment to write here again. Most of August was spent resting… which, let me tell you, felt really good. With the recent move to the countryside and a slower pace of life, I can feel a real shift in my mindset. Change, even the small kind, builds character and sneaks in a layer of confidence you didn’t know you needed.
It’s also been a major lifestyle adjustment for a city kid like me. Who knew that trading taxis for tractors (well, almost) could reset your whole outlook?
At 38, I feel like I’m entering a new chapter: reflecting on everything I’ve learned and thinking about what comes next. Lately I’ve been considering how our evolving personalities shape the DNA of our own personal brands. I find myself tweaking and fine-tuning my own narrative, the same way you’d edit a good draft or reorganize a messy closet.
The other night I watched a forgotten gem of a movie, Moscow on the Hudson with Robin Williams (don’t worry if you haven’t heard of it… most people haven’t!). It got me thinking about people like him, and like me, who left home to build a new life in New York City. Whenever I watch an 80s film set there, I immediately romanticize the city beyond reason. But honestly, New York did change me; it stretched my imagination, sharpened my skills, and gave me ten unforgettable years. I’m endlessly grateful for that era.
And now ? Now I’m leaning into clothes that are more wearable, comfortable, and timeless than ever: jackets, jeans, flats, bags and knits. The kind of pieces that feel like old friends as I (and my audience) get older, wiser, and maybe just a little cozier.
Until next time… sending love from the countryside (and from the girl who still secretly dreams in neon 80s New York).
xx
Mija
